Molasses Popcorn Balls

1 1/3 c Molasses
2 c Granulated sugar
2 1/3 c Water
2 ts Vinegar
1 1/2 ts Baking soda
3 1/2 qt Popcorn; popped

Combine molasses, sugar, water, and vinegar in a 2 quart saucepan. Cook and stir until sugar dissolves. Then boil gently until syrup reaches 250 on a candy thermometer. Remove pan from heat, add baking soda, and stir to mix thoroughly. (Baking soda makes hot syrup bubble up and fizz). Then pour this hot syrup over popcorn in a large bowl. Mix with spoon until coats all the corn. While the syrup cools enough to touch, butter your hands. Or put on plastic gloves so hands won't be burned. Shape corn into balls. Work fast. Pack them lightly so they are easy to eat. Put popcorn ball in a plastic sandwich bag. Tie the top shut to keep the popcorn ball clean and dry.
